Gravity Forms Plugin Slow Load Time

  1. Hi,

I've got the development team from W3 Total Cache doing a full server optimization on my dedicated server. We were all rather surprised to find that Gravity Forms seems to be taking quite a log time to load. Here's a screenshot from the test.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11855/Screenshots/c26o.png . You'll note that Gravity Forms is in the purple color and I didn't expect it to be the one to take up the load time. I don't know if this is something that can be fixed, but here's our site address too.

    Thank you,

  2. I'll bring this to the attention of the development team. We've made some performance improvements which will be incorporated into 1.7 but those would not be present in your installation (I could not verify the version you are running because I received this error message):

  3. Our version we're using is:

    Version 1.6.12

Our site was doing maintenance then but now you can check out too.

  4. Curt,
Yea, this is a bit odd. Does this test take form submissions into account, or is it just loading the page? I see a Gravity Form in your contacts page, do you have any other?

  5. We only have it for a Contacts Page and Tipline. That's all the forms we use.

    The plugin is:

    P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler)

And it's definitely quite accurate. The test is for loading the page.

    Thanks,

    Curt

  6. Ok. I will take a look at that plugin and run a few tests locally to see if I find anything. It will take a few days, but I will have something for you next week.

  7. I ran a few tests with P3 and with another profiler. What seems to be happening is that Gravity Forms includes two large files (common.php and forms_model.php) and the time for PHP to load those files into memory is what is causing Gravity Forms to show up at the top. Although it is at the top of your list (and mine), Gravity Forms still loads pretty fast (0.02 seconds in my system). From the results I see, this is not something that is urgent, but it is definitely something that I will be looking at improving for the next versions. The solution will be to break down those two large files and include pieces of them only when needed. I don't have a timeline for you, but it could take a few versions depending on how complex this becomes.
    Thanks for the heads up.

  8. your lucky is loads that quick for you. I've got a huge commercial dedicated server with 64 GB of Ram and SSD Drives, but Gravity Forms still takes over 3 seconds to load.

As a test we uninstalled just to compare and without Gravity Forms out site does load 3.4 seconds faster. That really surprised me since I like the plugin, but it's making us realize that that type of slowdown on our site is not good at all for business.

Hopefully 1.7 will be coming quickly with those fixes, but for now it looks like we'll have to deactivate it for the sake of our site.

  9. Well, 3 seconds is definitely not acceptable, but when I load your site it is pretty fast. I will be glad to take a closer look if you show me the page that is running slow
