Honeypot instead of ReCaptcha

  1. Hello,

Can Gravity Forms be used to create a honey pot type field (to prevent spam bots) rather than ReCaptcha? To wit:

Please enter the value of 2+2: field (and the field MUST be 4 or form will not process)

If so, can you provide guidance please?

  2. What you described is not a honey pot field, it's a match captcha field. A honey pot field is a hidden field that tricks a spam bot into filling it out when it should really be left blank.

Both a honey pot field and a math captcha field are available in the 1.4 beta release. The honey pot option appears in the Advanced form settings.

The match captcha field in the 1.4 release requires the Really Simply Captcha plugin be activated in order for it to appear as an option on the Captcha field.

  3. I like the idea of a honey pot field, I think it is less easy for bots to figure it out

  4. Version 1.4 was released earlier today and it includes the honeypot option. Give it a try and let us know how it works for you.

I selected the Honey Post option, but when I view I still the the CAPTCH version. Do I need to download an additional plugin or something?

  6. @laptophobo - can you describe what you are needing in more detail and provide a link to your form?

Hi. Thanks for the prompt reply. (BTW, I really like your plugin. This is the 2nd one I've purchased from you guys.)

Anyway, In my form, within Form Settings > Advanced is the option"Enable anti-spam honeypot". I checked that option. And, I see no difference on my Contact Us view: http://jwchinstitute.org/about-us/contact-us/

Also, is there a form option to re-confirm the email address. And, a clear form button?

I'd like to know how effective the honeypot field is, if anyone has had any experience.

    Thanks!

  9. I have it enabled, and Akismet is NOT enabled, on all my sites, and I have never gotten a spam submission. Your mileage may vary, but it's been very effective for me.
