How to validate code for HTML5?

    Hi guys,

Great plugin by the way! I've used Contact Form 7 for a few years, but found Gravity and now there's no turning back!

Now I know the code is advertised as 'XHTML Transitional' so fair enough, but I was just wondering if it would be at all possible to get it to validate in HTML5 as the rest of my site is built in this, and it's my first site using HTML5 so would love it to validate.

Could I maybe edit some of the template code for the plugin? Possibly?

    The page/site in question is : http://www.poie.co.uk

    thanks in advance

    Marc

  2. Marc,

I don't see a Gravity Form or link to a form on that page at all. I do know that the empty post action in the markup chokes the HTML 5 validation and we're addressing that in the next release.

Beyond that, everything else has validated fine to HTML 5 in my tests. Of course, if you find anything else, please bring it to our attention.

Thanks for the swift reply, the url where the form is :
    http://www.poie.thinkbigcreative.co.uk/tables/

You will see that it not only chokes on the empty post action, but also a few other things too!

    thanks again

p.s. Anyway for myself to tinker around and alter the empty post action??

  4. Okay, thanks. We'll check it out and see what we need to do to get it to validate. Right now there's not really any way to change the form action without hacking the core plugin files.

Would that be possible? (Referring to the plugin files, Im pretty savvy hacking around, or is this a no-go?)

Could you point me in the right direction?

    thanks

  6. I'm not sure exactly what files you would need to alter for this. I can ask our lead dev and let you know. As far as modifying the plugin files, you're welcome to do whatever you would like but you have to remember to save those changes somewhere before you auto-update anything.

  7. The Gravity Forms v1.5 development release already incorporates this change. So if it's critical you can download the 1.5 release from the Downloads page. It is stable, and implements the form action.

Thanks guys, you responses have been super-quick, I take my hat of to you!

So what version do I have? I downloaded about 3/4 days ago.

  9. I'm not sure, you'd have to look at the Settings page of Gravity Forms in your WordPress dashboard or your Plugins page that lists the plugins you have installed. There are 2 versions available for download on the Downloads page. The latest public release and the latest development release. I don't know which one you downloaded and installed. If you have no form action then you must have downloaded 1.4.5 which is the current public release. The 1.5 release on the Downloads page is considered a development release still, although it is stable.

  11. The final version of 1.5 will be the next public release and it is expected to be released as a final release later this month.
