Howto: Creating a form using custom fields

    After reading most of the forum and playing with GF, I am just checking whether I have correctly understood. A confirmation or denial would be very helpful, so I can get started building my form

    some background
    I am building a website where users can post their vacation rental home. the submission process runs through a gravity form 1.5RC, I have also installed "Gravity Forms + Custom Post Types" from Brad Vincent

    ONE ::::
    in order to have submission fields show up on the front end postview, I need to use custom fields from the post fields selections. all other fields -- standard and advanced -- cannot be called to show on the front end publication, correct?

    TWO ::::
    to link a custom fields added to the form to a already existing custom field on a custom post type
    I would simply use the dropdown of "custom field name", correct?

    THREE ::::
    in order to link my form to a custom post type
    I need to set the field Post Title, "Save as Custom Post Type"
    if I do this the newly submitted post will show up as a Custom Post, correct?

    FOUR ::::
    I need to create FIRST the custom post type and its fields, and then the form that goes with it. Otherwise I cannot link the form and its custom fields to the custom post type and its custom fields, correct?

    FIVE ::::
    It is currently impossible to create custom tags on a form and allow the user to select from already existing tags (associated with the custom post type) or input new ones in freeform seperated by a comma, correct?

    thanks
    for the quick response whether I have correctly deduced these statements
    so I can go on and start creating ;-)

  2. 1) Yes, in order to create a Post you have to use the Post Fields. In v1.5 which will be released this week (and is available as a development release) it features "Content Template" functionality on the Post Title, Post Body and Post Custom Fields that allow you to insert the values of other form fields (non-Post fields) into your Post Fields.

    2) You would have to look at the Custom Post Type Add-On for this answer. It was developed by a 3rd party. I believe if you are using Gravity Forms v1.5 that yes it shows a drop down and lets you select the post type.

    3) See above you would have to check with the Custom Post Type Add-On developer or the plugin information page on WordPress.org.

    4) Yes you would need to first create the custom post type and any custom taxonomies first. As far as custom fields/post meta goes, they don't have to exist. You can create them with Gravity Forms.

    5) You can utilize custom tags (custom taxonomy) using the custom post type add-on.

  4. As I mentioned, the Custom Post Type Add-On wasn't developed by us so i'm not 100% sure on it's features/functionality.

    I believe how it works (with Gravity Forms v1.5 at least) is when you add a Post Category or Post Tag field to your form, it adds an additional option to choose which custom taxonomy should be used.

    The custom taxonomy would have to already exist.

    But you'd have to check with the developer of that Add-On to know for sure. It's a brand new Add-On but we did provide input on best practices that he implemented for Gravity Forms v1.5 so that it works using hooks/filters and is more seamless with the rest of the user interface.

    Okay thanks
    In my opinion it supports category-like taxonomies but not tag-like taxonomies
    I will check with the dev

    In spirit of cooperation you could offer him a subforum on your forum where he could answer these type of questions.

    Just trying to help and share my thoughts while I am starting to get to know your great GF plugin
