Make Default Value disappear when field takes focus

  1. Hi,

Is it possible to make the value of the Default Value setting disappear from a field once that field takes focus?

For example, I would like to put "John Hancock" in the Name field, and john@hancock.com in the Email field. When the user clicks any of those fields, the default text would disappear, similar to the way many search fields work. Right now the default text remains and the visitor is forced to delete it manually.

Ideally, you'd add a setting in the Advanced > Default Value section which, if enabled, would hide the value when the field takes focus.

This feature would be useful as a partial alternative to the Description setting. I usually refrain from using field descriptions unless absolutely necessary. Usability is a big deal for me and the less text and the more function there is in a page element, the better. What I suggested would benefit users by giving them an intuitive yet unobtrusive hint as to what is supposed to go into a field.

  2. It's not built in yet, it's on the to-do list, but you can do this now by adding some script manually to your page template.

  3. Thanks, that worked as advertised. Though I will still be looking forward to that feature being added in a future update.
