multiple select drop down - possible?

  1. Just wondering if it is currently possible to do a drop down with the option to select multiple - I can't currently see any way, but slightly worried I'm missing something obvious.

If it's not possible is it a feature that might be considered?

    Thanks,
    Frank

  2. No, currently there is no multiple select option on the drop down.

By default a multiple select drop down turns into a field that isn't presented as a drop down. It also requires the user hold down the CTRL key when selecting multiple items, the fact is the average user doesn't realize they can select multiple values by holding the CTRL key. It's not user friendly.

We would like to implement a multi-select drop down field in the future but want to work out how to best handle it, most likely using jQuery so that it appears as a drop down with checkboxes within the drop down to select multiple values.

  3. Thanks Carl,

I agree in that I'm personally not a fan of multiple select drop downs from a usability perspective, however because they appear in certain types of apps / sites there are clients who request them. In this case I think we have convinced the client that it's not the best approach, however it would be nice to have the option, even if it was the less user friendly but current "standard" of using 'multiple' - and we can add descriptions to inform the user of the ability to select multiple...

Thanks for getting back to me!

Has this been addressed at all? I have a specific need, for a (really long) list of choices that needs the ability to select multiple values.

Using the checkbox type is very unwieldy, as the list is pretty long. The Multiple Choice type doesn't work because I see no way to allow multiple values to be chosen.

    Do I have another option?

    Thanks!

@Chris Hajer -you closed my other post as a duplicate of this one.

Since you did, is there a solution or workaround to this?

I'd like to think so, since this original post is 7 months old with no updates.

    <select multiple="multiple">

is a pretty standard thing to want to do on a form. regardless of how awkward it may be from a UX perspective.

Code examples, beta plugin code is welcome. I'm just looking to be able to use something I just paid for in a project, and GF was my recommendation to them.

  6. Currently Gravity Forms does not support multi-select drop downs using the select multiple option. We are planning on introducing a Multi-Select field in Gravity Forms v1.6 which will utilize some fancy jQuery magic to make the selection process easier on the user, and will fallback to a standard multi-select if they do not have Javascript turned on. Gravity Forms v1.6 will be available as a beta release later this month.
