Not receiving email notifications

  1. Hi I am new to Gravity Forms.

Have now set up 2 new forms for my blog on www-reversethinking.co.uk using the Wordpress platform

However, on testing I am NOT getting any email notifications. They come through to the Gravity Form on the Wordpress site but not to my email

I have enabled email notifications to the Administrator.

I have tried installing the WP-Mail-SMTP plugin but nothing works!

Please explain how this bug has still not been fixed despite the numerous problems reported on this support forum.

Please would you also advise me how I can fix this

    Thanks

  2. This is not a bug. Gravity Forms hands the mail off to the wp_mail() function. After that, Gravity Forms is done with the email.

It sounds like you are getting entries. That is good.

It sounds like you have enabled the administrator notification. That's good too.

The WP Mail SMTP plugin normally fixes 99% of email delivery problems with Gravity Forms. When you installed that, did you successfully send a test email?

One thing you can try is different email address as the "from email" (normally the email address you collected in the form) and the "to email" ({admin_email} usually.) You can enter a static email address for the administrator notification to go to. Try different domains and email services especially. Same for the email address you enter when you submit the form.

There is a lot you can do to ensure email is delivered from your forms. It's not a bug in Gravity Forms. It's due to the variability of all the different servers, mail transfer agents, email providers and email clients.

  3. Thanks for your prompt reply.

I have to point out that you are selling a product which does not have a crucial function available without an additional plug-in. I believe this should be made clear on your website before purchase.

I tried installing WT Mail SMTP but the test email was unsuccessful.

I have tried substituting a static email address in place of the admin-email field but that didn't work either.

I will take your advice and try some other email addresses and hope that works.

  4. I also have an instance where notifications are not being received. I have it set it to my own email address at this point, and I have had no problem receiving messages to this email address on other installations. I have double checked the settings and have spent about an hour trying all options. Stumped at this point. Please advise.

  5. Also just wanted to note that the test messages are coming through to WordPress as with the previous poster.

I am having the same problems. Whilst setting the forms up I was using my own email address but after I went live I change it to my clients email address (same as the website domain) and it stopped working. I know in the past that this has something to do with the settings on the server. I know how to fix this on a linux cpanel but not in a windows plesk control panel.

Also I noticed that the WP Mail SMTP plugin is over a year old. is it still a supported plugin?

    Thanks

  7. I just had success with WP-SMTP. Apologies for not trying it before I posted. Thank you!

  8. @DGRComms WP Mail SMTP is still supported and continues to work. It's also been over a year since Configure SMTP was updated, and it continues to work as well.

@jlbworks, thank you for the update. Glad you got that working.

Thanks Chris. I have installed WP Mail SMTP and I cannot get it to work. My site is on a Windows server with HostGator and I can't seem to find a solution.

do you have any ideas by any chance? Thanks

  10. Were you able to send the test message from WP Mail SMTP successfully? That is step number one.

No, I was not. I have been chatting with HostGator and they are saying that if my email address is not hosted on their servers (which is not) it will not work. Any ideas on this? I can't believe that there isn't a way to get emails to send if they are hosted elsewhere.

  12. Sounds like they are restricting the email you can send to email coming from an address for a domain they host there? That is true using the built in wp_mail() usually, but that's the whole point of using WP Mail SMTP. You call an external SMTP server.

What settings did you use for configuring the WP Mail SMTP plugin? Post a screenshot at an image hosting service and paste the link here. Hide the password if you like.

You have to make sure the test email can be sent. Once that is successful, you should be able to receive email from your WordPress site.

    I have been told again by HostGator the following;
To send from your Windows-hosted Wordpress you'll need a working email account, and to tell Wordpress to login and send as that same account.

    Eventually we did the following:
change the mx records under the dns settings on HostGator so that its pointing to the same mx record that the domain is.

Created an email address on HostGator and added all these details to the WP Mail SMTP. Getting the same error message that I have been getting. http://www.hibcc.org/wp-content/uploads/SMTP%20Issue.png

I am at a total loss as to why we cannot get a windows server to let wordpress send emails.
Appreciate your help and any knowledge you might have on this.
    Thanks

  14. WordPress and Windows have a long history of not getting along.

It does not appear that you are able to connect to the SMTP server at coxmail on port 25. On this page of documentation from Cox http://ww2.cox.com/business/idaho/support/data/article.cox?articleId=13f363a0-69e5-11e0-4e73-000000000000 it mentions that you should use SSL and also use port 465. Screenshot http://media.cox.com/cbsupport/images/internet/general/microsoftoutlook2003-6.jpg

Change port 25 to port 465, then check the box which says "Use SSL Encryption" and try the test again. You should at least be able to connect, even if you get an authentication error. That's OK, we'll be making progress at that point. Post another screenshot after you have made these two changes to the WP Mail SMTP settings.
