Paypal Conversion Tracking

  1. We are using the paypal addon and are having trouble tracking sale conversions using google analytics / google ppc coversion code.

Conversions are only tracked when visitors are returned to our 'Thank You' Page after making a paypal payment as the google tracking code needs to be placed on one of our pages. However, according to paypal's own documentation visitors who are not paypal members and chose to pay without registering a new paypal account will not automatically be returned to our website once they have paid - they will only have the option to even if auto redirect is enabled.

So at the moment the process may stall at stage 2 below:

    1. Gravity form with paypal addon on our website ---> 2. paypal payment -----> 3. Thank You page on our website with tracking code.

Is there any tracking code that can be placed between step 1 & 2 above to ensure the keywords are tracked for anyone completing the gravity form who does not return to the website after they have paid.

  2. There is a setting in PayPal to auto return the user to your site after payment is completed. You need to enable this so that PayPal will auto return the user to your site. Here is additional information: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/mer/express_return_summary-outside

  3. Hi Carl,

Yes I have it enabled. As I said in my post visitors who are not paypal members and chose to pay without registering a new paypal account will not automatically be returned to our website once they have paid - they will only have the option to EVEN IF AUTO REDIRECT IS ENABLED.

This is written in Paypal's own documentation and explains why only some conversions are tracked. I therefore need a way to track these conversions without relying on Paypal to redirect them back to the our website as there is no way to guarantee this.

  4. The only way you are going to be able to do this is through the use of custom code. The PayPal Add-On has hooks that fire when a payment is completed. You would have to use these hooks to execute your custom code. I'm not familiar with the conversion code to know what you need to do to implement it.

The PayPal Add-On Developer Documentation can be found here:
