PayPal Pro Error

  1. Hello,

I've done everything the person has noted in their post: http://www.gravityhelp.com/forums/topic/paypal-pro-payment-error-10501 including reseting API signatures, verifying PayPal Pro is activated but I can't get a subscription to work on my site - I am also working in a Live environment.

I do not get the error code 10501, my error simply says "There was an error processing your request. Your credit card was not charged. Please try again."

Can you all take a look and see if you can find anything? I can DM you my credentials for login.

    Thanks

  2. Is this a new account by chance? If so, the issue is due to the fact that PayPal recently changed the API for new accounts and they are no longer supporting PayPal Pro for new customers, only older/already signed up customers. We will be rewriting the PayPal Pro Add-On to support the new API.

  3. Hey Rob, that's a good question. This is actually a newly created "child" account off of my main Paypal account that has been around for several years. So if I had to guess, yes, it's probably deemed a new account from PayPal's perspective.

Do you have a time frame on the updated Add-On? I've already signed up for PayPal recurring payments (that I had planned to use for this plug-in), and I probably need to cancel so I don't get hit with the monthly fee if it's going to be awhile.

    Thanks

  4. Hello Kyle, unfortunately we don't have an ETA that we can give you right now. We are still working out the specifics with PayPal as far as which API needs to be used and waiting on documentation and examples to be provided to us. This stuff is still so new that even their public documentation is wrong.

It's frustrating from our end that PayPal has made this change considering we have already internally completed support for express checkout that would have brought the Add-On out of beta... but we just have to work with them to see what needs to be done to make it compatible. We talked with them today and are awaiting additional information to be sent to us for the new API.

What we do know is it's an entirely new API and there is not currently a PHP wrapper for it which means it's going to be more cumbersome to work with than the existing API.

We hope to update the Add-On to support the new API later this fall. Until then, it is only going to be compatible with users with older PayPal Pro accounts.

To make matters worse the two API's are NOT compatible. Users on the new system cannot use the API for the old system and vice versa. This means that we may end up having to drop support for the older accounts that use the older API which has been deemed legacy by PayPal. This will see us flip flop in what we support and while new accounts will work, older accounts would need to be upgraded.

Sometimes I don't think even PayPal knows what is going on.

  5. I understand. I've had to call PayPal a couple of time the last few days and I get the same feeling.

I may punt and go over to Stripe, but unfortunately from the accounting side they lack a few details that PayPal actually does a good job with. Having the ability to take payments is a better alternative than not I guess.

    Anyway, thanks for the clarification.
