Problem with .csv export files

I have 6 forms on my website right now (actually 2 forms split into 3 languages since the WPML multilanguage plugin for Gravity Forms does not work) and I have some issues exporting data into Excel. The .csv generated by the Export functionality gives really messy files and I have seen from the forum that I was not the only one but no real solution was provided. I have tried exporting data directly from the database (wp_rg_lead_detail) but forms are mixed (ID not corresponding) and I do not have all the data I see from Form Entries.

Is there also a way to have accents and special characters kept? We have entries in French and Italian.

I am ready to give you a temporary access to my Wordpress dashboard via e-mail as I need these entries really quickly.

    Looking forward to your answer,
    Maëlle

  2. What do you mean "really messy files"? It might be from non-English characters in the data, but I've never experienced that. If you would like someone to take a look, please send a WordPress admin login to chris@rockegenius.com and let us know which form you would like to export entries for. Please also reference this topic. Thanks.

I do have problems with accents in French and Italian but my main issue (in all languages) is that fields are mixed up when placed in columns. Text paragraphs for example are split up and some entries are missing. I sent you and email with Wordpress access.

    Thanks, Maëlle

  4. Maëlle - I emailed you. I was able to open your CSV in OpenOffice without incident and paragraphs were preserved in the Description field.

Hello, I have the same issue but with excel 2007 witch my client uses, in openoffice the .csv file is PERFECT but in excel 2007 and in Libreoffice it is a mess (column data is mixed with field data and is fragmented). Is there any setting that you know of that fixes the excel 2007 issue or should i just press my client to install openoffice?

    Thank you for your help.

Most likely though, your CSV problem was that it wasn't parsing the data based on commas correctly. This does sometimes happen if you don't set the program to UTF-8 and Comma when importing the exported files. Glad you found a solution that works for you though.

In excel one must rename the csv to txt, use something that is called "Import Text Wizard" to be able to select UTF-8 and Comma. UTF-8 is so necessary for non-latin characters isnt it?

  9. Yes, please select UTF-8 for all characters to be properly imported.

  10. Hi there!

I'm having the same problem as Maelle. My site is using WPML and an extract of the CSV exported looks like this:

    3xŬ]Ë:Ù–Ó²\’í\9 î ã'V0‚3’iì‹ýt£îªnº±ûn£6ªP°ó¾b¿@¿BoŒÿ%Ùži‡ä\éé™&ƒdÿqãûþÿûÿ¹ùÊ]¨ÍÖæY‡òjw†ÿn»~@/^¹©…nà§+z÷<º´<ß³VQfÍ•[î8ÊR+Kþ

Here are the forms is my site:

    http://barcelona-sounds.com/solicitud-guest-list-offbarcelona-2013/
    http://barcelona-sounds.com/en/offbarcelona-2013-guest-list-subscription/

I've tried importing the CSV into Excel and changing the Character Encoding to any possible option. No luck.

    Any solution please?
    Thanks in advance.

Can you send your export file to peralty@rocketgenius.com with a link to this thread, so I can look at it? If you are willing, I'd love the login details for your site, so I can generate and export just to confirm it is coming out wrong and that there aren't any on page errors.
