Reasons to set character limit?

  1. If I were interested in whatever input a legitimate responder felt inclined to submit, would there be any reason to set a character limit? I'm thinking spam and other web survival issues but am interested in your advice.

  2. I've never had a need myself, but maybe someone else will post their experience.

I have seen people use Gravity Forms for classified ads type posts, where they needed to limit the number of characters since they needed to layout a 'print' ad. If you were creating posts, maybe you want to limit the number of characters someone can submit in their article.

Spam is a good reason too,

You may never need to set a limit on the number of characters in the text area, but the option is there if you need it.
