Redirecting a Form to a Private Page

  1. I have set up a Gravity Forms form on a page which is to allow a person to request some free information. The form should direct the person to another page on the site that has three possible informational pieces for download. This secondary page is also a Gravity Form and it should be a private page so that it is not viewed in the usual navigational menu structure but only when requesting a piece of "free" literature to download.

I am using the Studio Press WP theme, Genesis - Streamline (Child). I am able to make the second page a private page so that it is only viewed when a free piece of lit is requested. However, when I edit the form to use "confirmation" by page, the private page is not listed under "page" options to redirect.

To correct this, I made the confirmation page a public page but by doing so it appears in the main navigational structure, on view to anyone. (As it is right now.)

I tried to use "redirect" and put in the private secondary page address (with the form to select a particualar "free" piece of lit) but that causes a 404 error.

Question: Can Gravity Forms not see and list private pages as "confirmation" choices under "page"?
Question: Why wouldn't the redirect to another page on the site work?

Is there a fix to this?

Could this be a theme issue instead?

    Thank you!!

  2. So you can't link directly to the private page using the URL redirect and entering the full URL to the private page? Doing that is returning a 404?

  3. Yes. I can't see on the drop down for a "page" confirmation message selection, a private page. No private pages are listed for selection.

If I choose instead to use the "redirect" confirmation message option and type in the URL, a 404 is returned.

  4. The private page is returning a 404 because you must not be logged in. Private pages in WordPress can only be viewed by users that are logged in.

If you redirect to a private page and the user isn't logged in they will get a 404 error. If you are seeing a 404 then it is because it doesn't recognize that you are logged in. That is why a Private page will return a 404.

If you want to hide a page from the navigation you can either use the Menus functionality of WordPress 3.0 so you control the menu, or you can use a plugin of some sort to hide it from the navigation.
