Required Field Not Working

  1. I have a new form on a website that is about to go live. All of the fields are required. One drop down, however, has required selected and the asterisk appears next to the label, but if you submit without making a selection, it does not produce an error. In fact if you leave all of the fields on the form blank, this one field is the only one that does not produce an error message.

    I am running 1.6.12

Your thoughts on how to troubleshoot...Cannot figure how this field is misbehaving if the other drop downs on the form work fine.

  3. OK...never mind. Found a dash in the drop down's value field. It was never blank. Oops....

  4. I'm still having the same issue, but it's on ALL drop-downs, in all forms I have. Other required fields are fine--just able to submit without getting an error for required drop-downs.

    Please help!

  5. @wiredpoet, please provide a link to your form online and please post a screenshot of the form builder where you have checked the "required" box, and show the values for the drop down as well.

Can you make the first label and value in each of the fields be blank?

I have the same problem here. It used to work but now it doesn't.

    @David Peralty
When both are blank the "REQUIRED" thing works. But previously I could set Label as "- Select Purpose -" and leave Value blank and it used to work. Are you trying to say that we should keep on using with the empty LABEL? That's very sad news Brother!

  11. The label can have text in it, but you need to leave the value empty for that first value to work as a placeholder and to fail validation if that default drop down choice is submitted. Be sure the "enable values" is checked for the field, and that the first drop down choice does not have a value set.

It still doesn't work. By saying, "Enable Values" where is that setting? Did you mean "Show Values" maybe? Is so, "Show Values" is checked too but it still doesn't work Sir!

  13. Sorry, yes, show values. I got my terminology wrong.

If you would like me to take a look at this, please export the form (go to Forms > Import/Export, then the top center menu item "Export Forms") and email the XML file to me at chris@rocketgenius.com - I will install it and see how it works for me and if there is anything misconfigured.

  15. @franky, please see this screenshot:

I installed your form on my site and left the 4 drop downs unselected. That is the result showing that the submission failed validation when I submitted without making a selection on those required fields.

Have you already gone through the troubleshooting steps found here http://rkt.gs/testing

Can you post a link to the page on your site where we can see the form on your server?

  16. I didn't have to have 'enable values' checked before for it to work, but I just did that, and left the value blank and and now it works. Weird. Thanks!

I did the troubleshooting and realized that there was conflict with the plugin "WP-HTML-Compression"
After disabling that plugin everything was fine. SOLVED!!

Thank you very much. I appreciate it!
