Set default display value of field to empty?

The fields in our forms always display the field name as a default value inside the field itself. We have set up separate field labels, and now want the field content to be empty and remain empty, unless a site visitor makes an entry in the field.

I am sure this is really easy - at least I hope so - but it has so far defied our efforts. Have searched the forum and read the docs, so if it is there and we have missed it, sorry.

    Any help appreciated.

Can you post a link to a page containing the form in question, there are a couple of ways that field name could be appearing as the default value inside the field so we need to see the form to determine which method is being used.

Solved this by recreating the fields. Newly created fields don't have an automatic default value. The ones previously created did have and it behaved in a 'good' way, clearing the value when the focus was on the field as the cursor entered. The new fields take a default value from the advanced properties box, but this does not clear on getting focus. I have seen posts about ways to implement this behaviour, although for our current purpose/design, we don't want any default values so it is not a worry right now. The remaining puzzle is how the fixed and non-removable default values got to be created in the first place?

    Richard. Thanks for your reply.

Look at http://www.abilisys.com/markets/ for an example. Will be changing this in the next few days, so will not show problem once it is fixed.
