Unwanted text is pre-populating a field in my form

  1. The phone field is pre-populated with the text "admin." This is NOT INTENTIONAL -- I don't know why it's appearing there. I see this in Firefox and Chrome on a Mac, but not in Safari. FireFox on PC as well, and I'm not sure about IE.

Here is an example of the form: https://www.valleybeitmidrash.org/registration?cost=No%20Charge&event=Visiting%20Scholar%20%E2%80%93%20Professor%20Wendy%20Zierler&date=2012-01-30

Viewing the source shows that there is nothing set for the Value attribute. How can I get rid of it?

  2. Betsey, did you figure this out already? I just opened the form up in FF, Safari, Chrome in OSX and the Phone field is blank. Could this maybe be showing if you are logged into the admin perhaps?

  3. I'm not seeing any text in the field either..

It's most likely the autocomplete function of your browser trying to pre-populate the field with what it thinks is the appropriate value. You can try turning off the autocomplete options in your browser and see if that makes a difference.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions. I tried turning off auto-complete and also clearing the form auto-complete history in Chrome and FF, but no luck -- it's still there. I am NOT logged in to wp-admin by the way.

Two others have reported seeing "admin" in the Phone field on this form as well, and it does seem strange that it's appearing in the PHONE field, not a username field or something that would normally take "admin."

Even more frustrating, we tried moving the fields around in the form, and the problem shifted to the ZIP field. (we have since moved them back to the right order).

Any other ideas I can try?

  5. Checked the browsers you mentioned and still don't see any trace of it. Another thought.. do you have any kind of search toolbar installed? Often times those have auto-complete (autofill) options as well for your forms.

    example: http://support.google.com/toolbar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47972

I'm kind of reaching here since I can't replicate the issue but I have seen similar things happen in the past.

  6. No toolbars installed. But if none of you are seeing it, it must be something related to our having at one point been logged in. The other two people who do see it have at some point logged in to the site. It's surprising that clearing my entire browser cache, form and site history doesn't help.

If anyone else has insight, please share. In the meantime, I'm going to explore whether any actual customers (who would not have ever logged in) have seen this. If not, then I'll probably give up.
