Upload folder is not writable. Export and file upload features will not be funct

  1. Hello, I just installed Wordpress 3.5.1 on a cPanel X hosting control panel. All was going well until the installation and activation of Gravity Forms 1.5.

I am now getting the error "Upload folder is not writable. Export and file upload features will not be functional". I found a similar thread on this but still was unable to target what was causing my uploads folder to be non writable.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Using FTP or SSH, check your folder permissions for wp-content/uploads and make sure it is writable by the system. You may need to ask your host for the best permissions to put on that folder as every host has different security settings.

  3. I am using FTP. There actually isn't an uploads folder. Is that because I haven't uploaded any media yet?

I could give you the credentials if you could take a look. But if its an issue with cPanel X then I may need to contact them. I honestly haven't used this platform before.

Try uploading a piece of media from within WordPress core (Media -> Add New) and see if that works. If it doesn't you'll want to look into your WordPress settings under Settings -> Media and then make sure the folder listed in there is created and has the right permissions.

  5. It fails to upload any media. "Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2013/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?"'

I am just not familiar enough with changing file permissions in WordPress. How can I make sure that the folder is writable?

You'll want to contact your web host about it as they may need you to use specific permissions anyways. All my best.

  7. David, I figured out how to alter file permissions via my FTP client and the issue went away.

    Thanks for the help.
