WPML and Gravity Forms

  1. We run a multilingual website (23 different languages) using the WPML plug-in. I have read all of the posts in the forum here about WPML and Gravity Forms. It seems the recommended solution is to create a different form for each language, but I was wondering if there is an alternative: is it possible to have only one form and translate the field labels (our main concern) with WPML? Using the plug-in localization and string translation tools in WPML, I see that there are something like 1300 strings in Gravity Forms that can be translated, but strings from forms do not seem to be included. Is that correct? Is there a way to do this?

You can see our form at: http://www.europadiary.eu/?page_id=4178

    WordPress 3.0.5
    Gravity Forms 1.4.5
    WPML 2.0.4

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Only static text strings are localized via a translation file.

The reason why all field labels, etc. aren't localized via a translation file is they don't exist until you create them. They are data driven. You name the fields because you create them. It's dynamic.

The translation files WordPress uses only applies to static text strings, it doesn't apply to data driven dynamic elements where the string is user configurable.

We are discussing how to translate forms using WPML without having to create multiple forms with the people at WPML so hopefully we come up with a solution in the future.
