Activation of Plugin Fails with Upload Message

"Upload folder is not writable. Export and file upload features will not be functional." What does this message mean? Is it referring to the Wordpress uploads folder - if it is, then this is writeable. If not, what is it that should be writeable please?

Sorry - our mistake. It was referring to the Wordpress uploads folder and we had an incorrect specification of that folder in the Wordpress settings. Once that was corrected it was fine.
