adding multiple form fields based on amount value?

i am trying to create a sign up form for a membership which based upon an amount selection allows for a multiple user sign up. the user is suppose to define the amount of users he wishes to sign up for. based on the amount selection the form should automatically show n-times name fields. is that possible? i was not able finding an answer to that. any pointers would be highly appreciated.
