You should be able to use conditional logic to do this. Have you tried configuring the conditional logic to show or hide the field based on the drop down value?
I have but i was experiencing the problem where the entire form preview fails to show, I read on the forum its a display:none issue but that doesn't seem to apply here, not sure why its doing that.
If the preview fails when you use conditional logic then this is typically a theme issue. You would have to check for theme and plugin conflicts. See this post:
