Form Editor not working (none woocommerce issue)

  1. Dear GF,

Having read all the contented user reviews and received very helpful advice pre-purchase I was looking forward to creating the first GF forms for my site today.

Unfortunately the Form Editor does not appear to work.

I installed GF Business Licence v1.6.12 onto WP v3.5.1 yesterday evening and have spent all afternoon today trying to fathom why the Form Editor failed to add any Field from the Accordion menu.

I also had it tested it on a totally different, unconnected machine, by an independent user in case I was repeating the same mistakes or it was a machine OS problem. Still no joy :-(

I am not using Woocommerce or indeed any form of ecommerce Plugin. In fact my site is very basic and all I wanted to create initially was a simple contact details form in return for a redirect to a download page.

Please HELP as from everything I've read about your GF s/w has (so far) convinced me that this is a perfect Plug In for all my current and future Form needs.

    BRGDS,
    Paul

  2. This is normally caused by a plugin or theme conflict, or configuration on the server. If you have already checked for theme and plugin conflicts (not just Woocommerce) using these instructions http://rkt.gs/testing , we would need to know how much RAM your server has available for both WordPress and PHP. You can get this information from your host or by getting a listing from php info ().

When the form builder is unresponsive, it's normally due to a JavaScript error which prevents the Gravity Forms jQuery from running, and the result is that the form builder does not work.

  3. Thanks Chris,

I'll follow the steps in the referenced document as far as possible EXCEPT surely I cannot activate the default Twenty Ten theme without losing all the data installed on my installed Premium Theme?

If I switch Themes surely my website will go down so I am not comfortable with that step.

I don't use a Server I use Hostgator and have an unlimited Business Premium Hosting package.

However happy to check but what or where do I use "php info ()" ?

In the meantime off to disable all Plugins and see what happens.

    BRGDS,
    PJ

  4. Hi Chris,

I have the full php info file compiled by my Host but don't wish to post the link on here as it has a lot of sensitive information within it. How can I send it to you?

However the answer to the question in simple terms from Hostgator was: 12 GB of DDR2 or DDR3 RAM

I have disabled all my Plugins and the problem still exists.

I can't activate WP Theme 2010 without losing my website (unless you know better?) but if you know your GF Plug In works with that Theme then my testing it will only confirm what you already know.

Therefore the only untested area is my Avada Theme (http://themeforest.net/item/avada-responsive-multipurpose-theme/2833226).

    Please advise.

    BRGDS,
    PJ

  5. Themeforest themes are notorious for creating problems with Gravity Forms. You can read about some other user's experiences here: http://www.gravityhelp.com/forums/tags/themeforest

If the issue was not resolved by deactivating plugins, you will have to test a default theme like Twenty Eleven or Twenty Twelve. http://rkt.gs/testing Alternatively, if you want to send me a copy of that theme, I can install it on my server and see if Gravity Forms works OK with that theme on my server.

This information (12 GB of DDR2 or DDR3 RAM) is the physical RAM of the hardware but not the resources available to the PHP processes. If you have the php info, please email it to chris@rocketgenius.com or just let us know what the memory_limit setting is (should look like 32M or 64M maybe.)

  6. Hi Chris,

I have checked with the Avada Theme Support Forum and they sing your praises wrt using Gravity Forms. Also one user quote "Hi There,I downloaded Gravity forms about two weeks ago to use on a site running the Avada theme. I have made three different forms, and they all work fine."

So I am not sure if it is a Theme conflict. It is definitely not a Plug In Conflict.

By looking at recent posts there seem to be quite a few relating to the Form Editor not working with the latest release and
    WP 3.5.1?

I will send you my Theme Zip and the PHP File for you to test and review.

Thank you for offering to test and resolve this issue. I do so want to use GF on my site.

    BRGDS,
    PJ

To cover myself there was no mention of testing Themes or considering Theme / Plug In conflicts when I bought the Licence for GF. If its buried somewhere in your T&C's then that is not sufficient to have brought it to my attention.

It is disingenuous of GF to continue to blame other Themes or Plug Ins or WP upgrades for problems or conflicts. Whilst I may expect that from "free" software or Plug Ins, I do not expect the same treatment for a paid Licence.

So far the Software I have bought is not fit for purpose and as such I shall give you 7 days from today, 8th February 2013, to resolve this issue and advise how I can make GF work to my satisfaction or provide me with a full refund.

  7. I downloaded and installed your theme. I have Gravity Forms 1.6.12 and WordPress 3.5.1. I created a Gravity Form. I embedded it in this page: http://guitar.chrishajer.com/testing-a-form-in-avada

As I previously mentioned, this is normally a plugin or theme conflict. Testing the theme on my server it appears that the theme is OK. You have tested for plugin conflicts, so that is not likely either.

Looking at your php info the PHP memory_limit is 256M, which is great. It appears there is something going on in your installation. You can activate WP_DEBUG and see if any errors show up, or check the host's PHP or Apache error logs (although if something were logged, you would normally see a white screen from a 500 Internal Server Error.)

I'll be happy to take a look at the admin area of your site if you send me a WordPress administrator login to chris@rocketgenius.com

  9. Can you turn off the Attracta SEO functionality at your HostGator hosting account?

If you have already checked for plugin conflicts and I did not have a problem with your theme on my server, I think it is related to Attracta, which is outputting JavaScript in your admin page, which does not make any sense. You can read about other member's trouble with Attracta here:

  10. Thanks Chris,

I shall get onto this straight away. I don't use Attracta and only clicked on the link at the Host C Panel at the very beginnings of my journey along the WP road when I did not know any better!

    Will revert ASAP.

  11. Hi Chris,

My host turned off the offending Attracta SEO Javascipt today and GF forms and the ability to edit forms and add fields immediately started to work.

Thank you persevering and finding the cause of this problem when it was not a Theme or Plug In conflict. I shall write a separate blog post of praise as to GF Support later for others to see.
