Grouping fields (again)

My client wants 1/2 the form fields to the left and 1/2 to the right. I read previous forum posts re. using the HTML block but that does not work, at least not the way I have tried.

The form fields are output as a UL with each field in a child LI. By adding HTML blocks containing opening and closing DIV elements, these are actually injected into the middle of the UL and thus the code becomes invalid non W3C-compliant code. Furthermore, the starting DIV if inserted right at the top, is injected too deep into the first LI and so cannot be floated reliably.

I am very keen to either see grouping as a feature (something like a fieldset block that you can drag into the mix would do it) or a workaround using HTML block or otherwise that works properly.

    Thanks!

  2. Yep, if you use the HTML blocks properly you can close/re-open the list structure to inject grouping elements be it fieldsets, divs, etc. It just takes a little custom work and though on your part. Check out the link Rob posted or there's another example here too.

OK, I'll unravel the structure some more.

Is this on the roadmap as a feature request, seems a bit ... awkward?

    Thanks for the pointers.

  4. It's not something that you're going to see in the immediate future, but something that we may choose to tackle down the road. As always, there are complexities in regards to how things are managed in the UI and so forth. For now, this hasn't been something in high demand so it's lower down on our list.

  5. Well... If it lacks demand, I'm really needing this feature. Right now I'm working on a pretty ugly code to make this work...

Hope you guys consider implementing something like that soon. An input for opening and another for closing fieldsets.
