Place Description before the field?

First of all, I'm really impressed with Gravity Forms. Nice work guys!

I'm wondering if there's a way to change the default form layout. Right now the default seems to be that the description is placed below the field. Is there a way to move it up above the field (but below the fieldname/title)?

  2. There might be a better way to do this, but here is a quick and dirty way to accomplish this: http://pastie.org/1037378

  3. Thanks, David.

Feature request: controlling where the description displays seems like a pretty straightforward formatting option that users should have control over; it'd be great if it was built in.

  4. Description is a feature we plan on adding as a form settings option in a future release.

  5. Three months later ... is this a feature that's included in v1.5.2.3? This feels like such an easy fix -- a checkbox in the advanced functions to say "Place field description above field?"

  6. Hi offbeatempire, this is not a feature of v1.5.2.3. We hope that you find some use for some of the other features we've added in the past three months. Bare with us as we continue to add more useful features as consistently as we can. This feature request has not been forgotten. :)

  7. Where would you put the "quick and dirty" code listed here?

  8. You would put Davids code in your themes functions.php file.

  9. Love love love including forms in my site but usually put the description with the question. In terms of hierarchy, it makes no sense to have a description below the entry field. Any chance of it going in the next release?!

    Thx!!

  10. No, It probably isn't going to make the next release but we do plan on incorporating an option for the description placement sometime in the very near future along with some other field enhancements.

  11. I believe that the location of the description, above or below input, can now be set in Form Settings. Is there a way to set the default to "above input?"

  12. Nope, the defaults stay the same they were before. You'll have to change it per form. Honestly, it's one selection in the settings to make per form so probably not that big of a deal.

  13. Thanks Kevin. It's not a big deal, but my situation is that I have one site with many different users creating forms. Gravity Forms is great for this because it requires no programming skills. I plan to use one theme for all the forms, and the description looks better above the input. Users will be creating forms on the fly without my assistance. I'll have to either train all the users to change the description location setting, or go in to all the forms and change it myself. Hence the request for a default.

Keep up the work with your fantastic product. It's streamlining many of our business processes.

  14. Thanks to David Smith for putting the solution here over two years ago. This is a simple fix that worked like a charm, but the fact that Gravity can't be bothered to implement the option for users seems pretty silly...
